Public Hearing on Assembly Row District Improvement Financing

Mon. Nov. 22 7:00 - 9:00

Somerville City Hall
Aldermanic Chamber
93 Highland Ave.
Somerville MA (map)

Agenda (PDF)

This hearing begins the process of establishing a District Improvement Financing (DIF) area in Assembly Square, mainly to pay for streets and other infrastructure not paid for the by Assembly Square iCubed program. Future residential, hotel and movie theater taxes would be pledged to pay for infrastructure usually paid for by developers.

Having a DIF at Assembly Square on top of the current iCubed program could cause long-term financial problems for Somerville. Increases in tax revenue from Assembly Square would be diverted to pay for the infrastructure. If the revenues were inadequate, the taxpayers would foot the bill.

For more information, see Assembly Row DIF Program.
